The classical music world suffered from restrictions meaning that choral performances, in particular, couldn\u2019t go ahead, and subsequently new recordings were thinner on the ground in <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/top-2021-songs\/\">2021<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite this, resourceful composers made the best of restrictions to explore innovate ways to write and perform <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/how-to-distribute-classical-music\/\">orchestral music<\/a>, embracing social media. And there were still plenty of highlights in the classical music world, such as the UK\u2019s first all-woman and non-binary orchestra, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.herensemble.org\/\">Her Ensemble<\/a>, hitting their stride after forming in lockdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Her Ensemble live at The state51 Conservatoire (full performance)\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gk_rQ4NAThc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/classical-musicians-on-the-rise-in-2021\/\">classical musicians list<\/a>  for 2022 features ensembles and solo artists, emerging musicians and seasoned composers stretching out in new and interesting directions. Since 2018 co-founders Alex Ho and Reylon Yount have been gathering a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tangramsound.com\/artists.html\">group<\/a> of orchestral musicians for boundary-pushing works. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2022 will see the collective launch more of their excellent projects like workshops, concerts and symposiums, all based around non-Eurocentric traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>Francesca Chiejina<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Handel: Ah! Spietato from Amadigi | English Touring Opera\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/56eMhCWT2Lg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Soprano <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rayfieldallied.com\/artists\/francesca-chiejina\">Francesca Chiejina<\/a> spent 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2021\/dec\/30\/francesca-chiejina-the-radiant-soprano-who-wants-opera-for-all\">working relentlessly<\/a>, and the world is richer for her versatile performances full of character. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year Chiejina looks to be just as successful, with plans including lending her superb voice to play Mim\u00ec in <em><\/em><em>La boh\u00e8me<\/em> for the English Touring Opera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>Rothko Collective<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"EDEN LONSDALE - STARING THROUGH EMPTY WINDOWS\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uFNbcMk7-vc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rothkocollective.co.uk\/\">Rothko Collective<\/a> challenge the traditional culture of orchestral music, aiming to bring classical music to a more diverse audience. They do this by encouraging their listeners to really focus on the sounds and exciting emotions of their experimental <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/best-daws-for-classical-musicians-in-2021\/\">orchestral music<\/a>, as witnessed on their debut album <em><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/6VlHbzJMc48QXhCzYtgtTZ?si=kHvb0ktHT0KAFAp0S2pQzg\">IINK<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further projects in 2022 are sure to be just as fascinating and stimulating, and all with 50% of music by <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/gender-inequality-in-the-music-industry\/\">women or non-binary<\/a> composers and a focus on non-white composers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>Abeo Quartet<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Schubert Quartettsatz No. 12 in C minor D. 703, Abeo Quartet\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LBTIV-OSLdM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abeoquartet.com\/\">Abeo Quartet<\/a> is made up of Brian Gadbow, James Kang, Njioma Grievous, and Rebecca Benjamin. Recorded in lockdown, she repurposed what was available at home instead of recording with an orchestra as planned.
