Sometimes they contain all those things. What will 2022 bring for the folk music world?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Folk music in 2021 started off with the delightful <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/the-sea-shanty-tiktok-trend-sails-on\/\">#ShantyTok trend<\/a>, which filled first <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/how-to-get-your-music-on-tiktok-and-earn-money-for-free\/\">TikTok <\/a>and eventually the music charts with sea shanties. There were unexpected joys to be found in major album releases, like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hvVGCYWpRQ8\">UK folk covers in Robert Plant and Alison Krauss\u2018 second album<\/a> <em>Raise The Roof<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whatever treats are in store this year, on folk scenes big and small, you may well find some of these musicians behind them. Here are six rising folk artists in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>Staran<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Staran- Balcarres\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bkRZDn3oxPI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.staranmusic.com\/\">Scottish collective<\/a>, made up of Kim Carnie, John Lowrie, Jack Smedley, Innes White and James Lindsay, released their exciting debut album last year. Subtle <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/8-new-jazz-artists-for-2021\/\">jazz <\/a>influences lurk amongst traditional Gaelic folk. The result of her research explores the black experience in British folk music. A snippet can be found for a limited time <a href=\"https:\/\/angelinemorrisonmusic.bandcamp.com\/\">on her Bandcamp<\/a>, if you\u2019re quick. You\u2019ll hear Morrison\u2019s deep love for folk songs shining through her pure, stunning voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>Silvana Estrada<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Silvana Estrada: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S52_XxBwbJg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Multi-instrumentalist <a href=\"https:\/\/glassnotemusic.com\/artists\/silvana-estrada\/\">Silvana Estrada<\/a> started off learning jazz standards before diving into Mexican traditional music. There is still a lick of jazz within the instrumentals along with influences like Portuguese fado and Venezuelan folk, anchored by her haunting, heart-bursting vocals. Look out for her new album <em>Marchita <\/em>in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>The Wilderness Yet<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"John O&#039; Dreams \u2013 The Wilderness Yet\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6TMyL77mlWA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Warming traditional Anglo-Irish fare from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewildernessyet.com\/\">a trio <\/a>consisting of BBC Young Folk Award finalist and singer Rosie Hodgson, fiddler Rowan Piggott, and Philippe Barnes on guitar and flute. Their 2020 eponymous debut album showcased exquisite three-part harmonies. For fans of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/5GL5xJTQ7CG216T9L2C0gz?si=l4yT6e9USA-sNpPaSTiELA\">Spell Songs<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>Yasmin Williams<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sunshowers l Yasmin Williams\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JkoD8j3q46c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An extraordinary guitarist, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yasminwilliamsmusic.com\/\">Yasmin Williams<\/a> uses her own invented fingerstyle techniques, plus added extras like a kalimbo and bow that in a lesser musician\u2019s hands would be gimmicks. Based in Virginia, she actually took up the <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/top-10-tips-to-teach-yourself-guitar-in-2021\/\">guitar <\/a>after playing <em>Guitar Hero 2<\/em>.
