To get signed to a <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/what-does-indie-record-label-mean\/\">record label<\/a>, you need to send out music demos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A demo is an example of several tracks you&#8217;ve written or <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/how-to-improve-your-music-production-skills\/\">produced<\/a>, giving labels an idea of your style of music. The scary truth is, even a small record label accepting demos receives hundreds of submissions a week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But never fear. Here\u2019s how to break through the noise and send out a killer demo submission that will get your music noticed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>The music has to sound great<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The beauty of a demo is it doesn\u2019t have to be perfect. They&#8217;re different from a released single or EP which is a polished, final draft which must have professional sounding <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/5-mistakes-new-music-producers-make\/\">production<\/a>. But your demo still needs to sound good, otherwise you\u2019re putting people off before they\u2019ve had the chance to hear the potential of your music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure your track is <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/how-can-musicians-and-producers-tell-when-their-track-is-finished\/\">finished <\/a>before sending. Watch your levels when recording, spend some time getting the <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/5-eq-mistakes-new-producers-make\/\">mix <\/a>right, and make sure you can hear every important element of the song. Up to three tracks is a good amount to send. You\u2019re wasting your hard-earned time by sending out your music to a label that isn\u2019t the right fit for your music. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An EDM label won\u2019t be able to do much with your <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/how-to-have-a-better-band-practice\/\">indie rock<\/a> demo. Remove yourself from the equation for a minute and think carefully about who you\u2019re sending your demo to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>Send more than just a link<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>So you\u2019ve chosen which labels to contact. Now tailor each of your emails or forms to each company, and, if you have the information, a specific person within the label. An email with just a link to your music seems lazy and might be sent straight to spam. Give your brief <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/how-to-write-a-good-music-artist-bio-5-top-tips\/\">bio<\/a>, where you\u2019re based, how long you\u2019ve been making music, and describe what your songs are like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep the tone light and professional, whilst being yourself. Research different labels and refine your approach.
