In the case of \u201cabcdefu,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/tag\/abcdefu\">the trend<\/a> featured teenagers smashing plates in time to the defiant hook. The song has been used on over 900 thousand videos, and GAYLE has gained over 12 million TikTok likes in the past month alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The song soon amassed a million streams outside of <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/is-tiktok-the-future-of-the-music-industry\/\">TikTok<\/a>. And in the week of December 9 2021 \u201cabcdefu\u201d was number one on the US iTunes all-genre chart, and number two on the UK Official Singles Chart. That\u2019s officially breaking out of the TikTok bubble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Is TikTok music success sustainable?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve seen trends catapult other musicians into success beyond TikTok, such as Nathan Evans, the originator of the #ShanktyTok trend, who <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/sea-shanty-tiktok-star-lands-record-deal\/\">scored a record deal<\/a> off the back of his viral acapella TikToks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The randomness of TikTok means it\u2019s hard to capture that same viral excitement after your first success, but once a musician is established outside of the app<a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/can-a-viral-hit-guarantee-a-successful-music-career\/\"> career longevity is more likely<\/a>.
