The Hipgnosis Songs Fund now owns catalog of both McVie and Lindsey Buckingham.<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

We recently reported that Hipgnosis had acquired 100 percent of Lindsey Buckingham\u2019s publishing rights<\/a>, now they\u2019ve purchased fellow Fleetwood Mac member Christine McVie\u2019s catalogue rights.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deal includes every song McVie penned both with the band and solo, including some of Mac\u2019s biggest hits, such as \u2018Say You Love Me\u2019, \u2018Little Lies\u2019, \u2018Don\u2019t Stop\u2019, \u2018You Make Loving Fun\u2019, \u2018Think About Me\u2019, \u2018Save Me\u2019, and many more. The terms of the deal comprise McVie\u2019s Worldwide copyright, ownership and financial interest, including writers share, all of the compositions and neighbouring rights for 115 McVie written songs. However, the full terms and conditions, along with the amount paid are yet to be revealed.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the deal McVie said in a statement: \u201cI am so excited to belong to the Hipgnosis family, and thrilled that you all regard my songs worthy of merit.\u201d Adding:  \u201cI\u2019d like to thank you all for your faith in me, and I\u2019ll do all I can to continue this new relationship and help in any way I can! Thank you so much!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Merck Mercuriadis, Founder and owner of Hipgnosis states: \u201cIn the last 46 years the band have had three distinct writers and vocalists but Christine\u2019s importance is amply demonstrated by the fact that eight of the 16 songs on the band\u2019s Greatest Hits albums are from Christine. It\u2019s wonderful for us to welcome Christine to the Hipgnosis Family and particularly wonderful to reunite her once again at Hipgnosis with Lindsey Buckingham. Between Christine and Lindsey, we now have 48 of 68 songs on the band\u2019s most successful albums.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the acquisition of Buckingham<\/a> and McVie\u2019s catalogues, Hipgnosis now owns the song copyrights and writers are for seven of 11 songs on \u2018Fleetwood Mac\u2019, eight of the 11 songs on \u2018Rumours\u2019, 15 of the 20 songs on \u2018Tusk, 9 of the 12 songs on \u2018Mirage, 9 of the 12 songs on \u2018Tango In The Night\u2019 and 12 of 17 songs on \u2018The Dance\u2019. In addition to this, they also own 11 of the 16 songs on the band\u2019s \u2018Greatest Hits\u2019 collection.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fleetwood Mac isn\u2019t the only band\/artist to sign over their rights to the Hipgnosis, prestigious artists such as Mark Ronson, Red Hot Chilli Peppers<\/a>, Neil Young, and many others have also done so. The big-spending by the company has also paid off as they reported a steady profit for the year 2020.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we\u2019ve mentioned before, it is very likely we will see more artists, particularly those with large hits at the end of their careers signing up to sell their publishing rights.<\/a> The payout is extremely lucrative and acts as a music industry pension in some respects. Not to mention the fact that we\u2019re heading into a period of music streaming domination, companies like Hipgnosis are primed to make a steady income for the foreseeable, especially of the retro-fetishism of older tracks continues, bringing in a new generation of listeners and fans.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
