The <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/bpi-argue-streaming-already-works-better-label-cuts-are-diminishing-artist-profits\/\">BPI<\/a>, the UK\u2019s independent and major labels association, has revealed encouraging statistics about the boost streaming gives to British music worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2020 British music exports were up by 6% from 2019 \u2013 growing to \u00a3519.7 million, the highest recorded figure since 2000 when records began. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bpi.co.uk\/news-analysis\/streaming-powers-british-music-exports-to-new-high-in-2020\/\">In the report<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/rap-music-uk-popularity\/\">BPI<\/a> also revealed that 300 British artists achieve over 100 million yearly streams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"520\" height=\"218\" src=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/uk-label-income-streaming.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-86011 lazyload\" \/><figcaption><em>Image Credit: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bpi.co.uk\/news-analysis\/streaming-powers-british-music-exports-to-new-high-in-2020\/\">BPI<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Britain is the second highest exporter of music in the world, behind the US. Also in the report, however, they noted that the UK\u2019s overall share of global music revenue is unstable, and called on the <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/record-labels-keep-half-of-all-profits-from-music-streaming-and-nile-rodgers-is-calling-for-clarity\/\">UK government<\/a> to quickly utilise the ever-growing streaming market to build on the economic potential of British music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Geoff Taylor, Chief Executive of the BPI and <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/brit-awards-covid-19\/\">BRIT Awards<\/a>, said: \u201cThe explosive growth of music streaming around the world represents an unprecedented opportunity for British music. With global competition intensifying, now is the time to push hard, to actively promote our artists to a global audience and maximise our share of global growth, with artists such as <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/best-albums-of-2020\/\">Dua Lipa,<\/a> Harry Styles, Lewis Capaldi, Stormzy, The 1975 and Mabel, among many others, now leading the way alongside the likes of <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/ed-sheeran-has-been-crowned-the-uks-top-artist-of-the-decade\/\">Ed Sheeran<\/a>, Adele, Coldplay and Arctic Monkeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs the UK builds back from Covid-19 and forges its future as an independent trading nation, music can play a pivotal cultural and economic role.
