Publishers claim that Roblox is \u201cIllegally using songs\u201d by artists such as Ariana Grande and Imagine Dragons.<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The National Music Publishers Association<\/a> is suing popular social video game Roblox<\/a> for at least $200 million, claiming that they are using songs illegally from numerous artists.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NMPA<\/a>\u2019s President David Israelite claims that Roblox is making \u201chundreds of millions of dollars by requiring users to pay every time they upload music onto the platform\u2014taking advantage of young people\u2019s lack of understanding about copyright\u2014and then they take virtually no action to prevent repeat infringement or alert users to the risks they are taking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NMPA<\/a> has said artists such as Ariana Grande, Imagine Dragons, deadmau5 (who is individually claiming damages), Ed Sheehan, and The Rolling Stones have been financially affected. In addition to this publishers such as ANKCO Music & Recordings, Big Machine Records, and Concord Music Group<\/a> are also to have been negatively impacted.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NMPA<\/a> suit is looking for damages \u201cfor\u00a0Roblox<\/em>\u2019s unabashed exploitation of music without proper licenses,\u201d\u00a0stating that it\u00a0\u201cwill ensure songwriters are fully paid for their works on the platform and that\u00a0Roblox<\/em>\u00a0takes seriously its obligations to those who have made its service so popular and profitable.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
