Tencent loses exclusive licensing agreement with Sony Music as NetEase Cloud Music and Sony sign a new distribution deal.<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/routenote-and-netease-are-take-your-music-to-600-million-new-listeners\/\">NetEase Cloud Music<\/a> and Sony Music Entertainment have struck up a new direct digital distribution deal. Under the agreement, music from the <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/sony-music-revenue-skyrockets-above-4-5bn-in-2020\/\">Sony<\/a> catalogue will be made available to NetEase users in Mainland China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NetEase Cloud Music, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.routenote.com\/partner\">a RouteNote partner, <\/a>is an interactive music service and one of the \u201cBig 3\u201d companies in <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/free-music-distribution-for-chinese-artists\/\">Chinese music streaming.<\/a> The new arrangement is notable as previously Tencent Music Entertainment, which leads the streaming market in China, held an exclusive deal with Sony Music. Whilst Sony did recently extend its digital distribution agreement with Tencent, the agreement with <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/netease-cloud-music-have-doubled-the-number-of-independent-artists-on-their-platform-in-one-year\/\">NetEase<\/a> means that Tencent has lost its last major exclusive licensing deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regulators meanwhile have been investigating the <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/is-the-chinese-music-streaming-market-a-duopoly\/\">market dominance of Tencent\u2019s music division<\/a> in China, including scrutinising its exclusive catalogue deals with big labels that were key to the company\u2019s rapid rise above its rivals. Tencent had already lost its <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/universal-sign-deals-with-chinese-companies-tencent-and-netease\/\">exclusive deals<\/a> with Universal Music and <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/netease-cloud-music-just-licensed-over-1-million-warner-tracks-for-nearly-1-billion-users\/\">Warner Music, <\/a>which the Chinese music giant had paid large fees to maintain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/netease-cloud-music-saw-huge-revenue-growth-q2-2020-earnings-call\/\">NetEase Cloud Music<\/a> is one of the most popular entertainment apps for Gen Z music fans in China. Launched in 2013, the music division of <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/is-netease-music-safe\/\">NetEase<\/a> now boasts over 800m users; an audience musicians and producers looking to release music can reach by distributing their music <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/how-to-get-my-music-onto-netease-music-for-free-and-make-money\/\">through RouteNote.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ding Bo, Vice President of NetEase Cloud Music, said: &#8220;With access to SME&#8217;s abundant catalogue of top artists across the globe, we&#8217;re thrilled to provide more unique and influential music content for our audience&#8217;s diverse tastes. The partnership will enrich and enliven our already vast and expanding library of quality music and propel&nbsp;China&#8217;s&nbsp;online music ecosystem forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NetEase\u2019s agreement with <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/independent-distributors-awal-have-just-been-sold-to-major-label-sony-music\/\">Sony Music<\/a> will see co-operation in music distribution and streaming but also online karaoke and music vlogs. The deal lets NetEase broaden its music selection which already includes renowned artists in <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/ultimate-music-distributor-in-china\/\">China<\/a> such as Karen Mok and Eric Chou.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.routenote.com\/\">Looking to release your music onto streaming services?
