Acts such as <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/grammys-2021-performance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BTS<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/taylor-swift-begins-to-re-release-her-old-songs-spot-the-difference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Taylor Swift<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/drake-becomes-first-artist-to-surpass-50-billion-spotify-streams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Drake<\/a>, Billie Eilish, and <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/the-weeknd-boycotts-grammys-is-time-up-for-the-awards-ceremony\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Weeknd<\/a> have been key in boosting sales.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report states that more than 443 million people now pay for a music streaming subscription, which means that 102 million people signed up for a new account in 2020, compared to 85 million in 2019 and 79 million in 2018.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The best-selling album of 2020 was \u2018Map Of The Soul: 7\u2019 by <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/bts-label-and-universal-to-join-forces-and-search-for-the-next-big-k-pop-boy-band\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BTS<\/a> whilst best selling single was held by The Weeknd\u2019s \u2018Blinding Lights\u2019, which sold a staggering 2.7 billion copies. The top ten <em>\u201cbest-selling\u201d<\/em> global artists of 2020 were, BTS, Taylor Swift, Drake, <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/the-weeknd-boycotts-grammys-is-time-up-for-the-awards-ceremony\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Weeknd<\/a>, Billie Eilish, Eminem, Post Malone, Ariana Grande, Juice WRLD, and Justin Bieber.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the report streaming platforms such as <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/can-i-upload-my-music-to-spotify-yes-and-its-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spotify<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/how-to-get-my-music-on-apple-music-for-free-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Apple Music<\/a> accounted for 62.1% of all revenues, reaching $13.4 billion (\u00a39.7 billion).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking about the report and positive figures Frances Moore, IFPI chief executive said: \u201cSome things are timeless, like the power of a great song or the connection between artists and fans. But some things have changed.
