Twitter’s Q4 earnings results show daily active users increased by 5 million over the last quarter, closing the year with 192 million.<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Ending Q4 2019 with 152 million monetizable daily active users, and sitting just one year later at 192 million, shows just how much stay-at-home orders have increased Twitter’s use over the past year. The US were responsible for 37 million monetizable daily active users in Q4 2020, up by 1 million from Q3. Twitter reports that 80% of its users are outside of the US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Twitter’s Q4 financial results<\/a> also shows growth in revenue. A 28% year-on-year growth resulted in $1.29bn, giving an operating profit of $252m. Twitter say their growth is thanks in part to efforts in targeting election misinformation. This is an increasingly important area as more and more people use Twitter for news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CEO Jack Dorsey shared his thoughts on the future of Twitter, as he talked about giving users multiple algorithms to choose between, that show different content. “You can imagine an app-store-like view of ranking algorithms that give people ultimate flexibility,” continuing by stating this will “not only help out business, but drive more people into participating in social media in the first place”. Allowing users more choice in the types of content they see on their feed is certainly a unique concept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
