The agreement means that the two companies will work together to develop new features and fresh talent-scouting insights. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amusingly, the announcement comes hot on the heels of Universal <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/universal-music-group-has-pulled-its-catalogue-from-triller\/\">dramatically removing its music<\/a> from TikTok rival <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/triller-hits-number-1-on-the-app-store-in-50-countries-without-spending-a-dollar-on-marketing\/\">Triller. <\/a>Just days ago the company claimed that \u2018Triller has shamefully withheld payments owed to our artists\u2019 and pulled its entire catalogue from the platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new deal focuses on enhancing connections between Universal Music artists and the music community on <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/all-time-top-10-most-used-tiktok-tracks-in-2021\/\">TikTok.<\/a> Global head of TikTok Ole Obermann <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.tiktok.com\/en-us\/tiktok-and-universal-music-group-announce-expanded-global-alliance\">said,<\/a> \u2018Our platform has been a driver in creating chart hits and licensing the world&#8217;s biggest catalogue of tracks will continue to inspire our community.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/business\/digital-and-mobile\/9523263\/universal-music-tiktok-partner-artist-collabs-data\/\">an interview with Billboard,<\/a> Universal Music Group\u2019s Executive Vice President of Digital Strategy&nbsp;Michael Nash&nbsp;said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>We haven\u2019t just renewed a TikTok license here\u2026 Obviously, TikTok has revolutionised how fans are connecting with our artists on their platform and in the social space, and we think that we have the potential to collaborate really deeply with them to develop the kinds of tools that are going to really move the needle for our artists and for the industry. It&#8217;s not about signing an agreement. It&#8217;s about all the things that we&#8217;re going to do after we execute the agreement, and it was crafted around concepts for new <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/the-power-of-music-collaboration\/\">collaboration<\/a> that we\u2019re really excited about.<\/p><cite>Michael Nash, Universal Music Group\u2019s Executive Vice President of Digital Strategy&nbsp;<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>TikTok now has worldwide licensing deals with all three major labels. The platform&#8217;s music team forged a new music licensing agreement with <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/sony-music-revenue-skyrockets-above-4-5bn-in-2020\/\">Sony Music Entertainment<\/a> in November last year, and a short-term licensing deal with <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/warner-music-group-sees-boost-in-profits-due-to-streaming\/\">Warner Music<\/a> in December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The music industry actively <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/sea-shanty-tiktok-star-lands-record-deal\/\">scouts TikTok<\/a> for the next musical viral sensation.
