The compressed Super Nintendo soundtrack is as iconic as the little red hat and moustache donned by Mario, but the original samples reveal a brand new perspective on the renowned theme tune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Super Mario World Restored - Overworld\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SyN7qOFyG9Q?list=PLD-vbw8Jmuyg3JYDxm1QPPj1mP3soOVEx\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The fans putting in the effort are extracting the original audio samples created for Super Mario World before they became the heavily compressed versions we know so well. Creator and Restored uploaded &#8216;The Brickster&#8217; revealed that the samples could be found in the source code for Super Mario Advanced which was made available in Nintendo&#8217;s &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2020\/7\/30\/21347074\/nintendo-gigaleak-controversy-history-preservation-archives\">gigaleak<\/a>&#8216; last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">For anyone curious as to how these findings were done, its actually rather simple. Know how the Gigaleak had source code for Super Mario Advanced? That game reuses samples from Super Mario World. Those samples had names we didn&#39;t have, which is how we were able to find them. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qWFTG1YdYW\">pic.twitter.com\/qWFTG1YdYW<\/a><\/p>&mdash; The Brickster (@lebrickster) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lebrickster\/status\/1357046155167887361?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 3, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It remarkably brings to life the tracks which we&#8217;ve come to know so well in a clearly synthesised version. The piano on some of these pieces sounds like a genuine live recorded instrument.
