The artist known for tracks such as \u2018Hotline Bling\u2019 has become the first artist to hot over 50 billion streams on Spotify.<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

As of yesterday Drake<\/a><\/b> is the first artist to ever surpass 50 billion combined streams on Spotify<\/a>. Another landmark moment for the streaming service<\/a> after Olivia Rodrigo<\/b>\u2019s debut single \u2018Drivers License\u2019<\/i><\/b> broke streaming records last week. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s an impressive feat but one that was arguably somewhat predictable. His 2018 single \u2018God\u2019s Plan\u2019<\/a><\/i><\/b> racked up an impressive 1.675bn streams alone. Not to mention other releases racking up numbers in the high hundred-millions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s likely that Drake<\/a><\/b> is going to hold onto this lead too as his forthcoming album \u2018Certified Lover Boy\u2019<\/i><\/b>, the follow-up to 2018\u2019s \u2018Scorpion\u2019<\/a>,<\/i><\/b> is expected to drop later this month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This isn\u2019t the first time Drake<\/a><\/b> has broken Spotify records though, back in 2010 he was the platforms most streamed artist with 28 billion streams, beating Ed Sheeran<\/a><\/b>, Post Malone<\/a><\/b>, Ariana Grande<\/a><\/b> and Eminem<\/a><\/b>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His 2018 release \u2018Scorpion\u2019<\/a><\/i><\/b> also shattered Spotify<\/a>\u2019s one-day global record for album streams, with the album\u2019s individual tracks totalling 132,450,203 streams, more than 50,000,000 greater than the previous record, set weeks earlier by Post Malone<\/a><\/b>‘ \u2018Beerbongs & Bentleys\u2019<\/a><\/i><\/b>, which was streamed 78,744,748 globally on release. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s looking like that 2021 is going to be a big year for streaming, we\u2019re only 20 days in and records are being smashed left, right and centre. Not to mention that streaming was up for a sixth year straight in 2020. <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
