While all brilliant, their albums haven\u2019t necessarily quenched the thirsts of those who have been waiting the longest. What do we expect, though? Tastes change, and people grow.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Here\u2019s where Hopesfall step in<\/strong> <strong>&#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stepping back into the limelight after eleven long years of silence, their newest offering \u2018Arbiter\u2019 is a welcome reminder that they\u2019re still very much alive and kicking. For a band who garnered such praise for their previous albums (most notably 2004\u2019s \u2018A Types\u2019 and 2007\u2019s \u2018Magnetic North) a comeback album was always going to be a tricky task. Here we are though, and I am happy to say they are back with a bang.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14472\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14472\" style=\"width: 287px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-14472 lazyload\" src=\"http:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Hopesfall-guitar-e1533638223639-423x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"287\" height=\"305\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Hopesfall-guitar-e1533638223639-423x450.jpg 423w, https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Hopesfall-guitar-e1533638223639.jpg 601w\" sizes=\"auto\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14472\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><em>Image by James Dicks<\/em><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Arbiter\u2019 commences with the most recent single, \u2018Faint Object Camera\u2019. The near-instant barrage of monstrous guitars, coupled with vocalist Jay Forrest\u2019s piercing screams, immediately causes heads to sway. The intricate guitar work, provided by Joshua Brigham and Dustin Nadler, helps to create the vibrant and spacey soundscape in which you could drift for hours.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of this, underpinned with the rock-solid rhythm section of Chad Waldrup (Bass Guitar) and Adam Morgan (Drums) sets their fifth album off to a flying start.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This wall of filth continues throughout, as they reaffirm their status as one of the best in the business. With tracks like \u2018Bradley Fighting Vehicle\u2019 and \u2018I Catapult\u2019 giving Forrest a perfect platform to display his brilliant ear for melody, the release as a whole seems to encapsulate what was so beautiful about their previous works. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The stunningly lethargic interlude that is \u2018Aphelion\u2019 really is the icing on the cake for me. The juxtaposition of dark and light in that track sums up for me perfectly what Hopesfall are all about. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Usually, keeping a similar tempo throughout a release can indicate stale and tired songwriting, although this technique being employed throughout \u2018Arbiter\u2019, however intentional, sends the listener into a kind of gorgeous trance. Drowning in reverb and delay, the soundscapes that Hopesfall achieve are beautiful, dripping with angst and nostalgia.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14471 lazyload\" src=\"http:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Hopesfall-gig.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"640\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Hopesfall-gig.jpg 960w, https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Hopesfall-gig-577x385.jpg 577w, https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Hopesfall-gig-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Hopesfall-gig-700x467.jpg 700w, https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Hopesfall-gig-800x533.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto\" \/><em style=\"color: #3366ff; font-size: 14px;\">Image by <a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/markvalentino\/\">Mark Valentino<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Closing this wonderful piece of auditory heaven is \u2018Indignation and The Rise Of The Arbiter\u2019. The powerful display of Adam Morgan\u2019s intricacy is showcased wonderfully throughout this final track. Coming in at a lengthy six minutes and nineteen seconds, the daze in which the listener finds themselves feels like it could go on forever. Not that it\u2019s a bad thing, of course. Heavy, monstrous guitars, married with equally haunting vocals, could not have been a better end to this opus. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With this album, Hopesfall have show they are here to stay for a second stint &#8211; and I (along with many others) will surely take them in. Some may be upset that they hadn\u2019t gone back to their metalcore roots of the first two albums, but \u2018Arbiter\u2019 sits proudly as the perfect successor to \u2018Magnetic North\u2019 after a long eleven years.
