Shinola’s gorgeous Bookshelf Speakers are getting the studio treatment with the second generation going for true audiophile appeal.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Shinola have just launched the updated versions of their Bookshelf Speakers launched last year. With the help of American studio monitor makers Barefoot Sound, Shinola have created beautifully crisp, studio-quality speakers made for the home – if you have $1,500 to spare for a pair.<\/p>\n

The newly launched Bookshelf Speakers are enhanced from Shinola’s first pair of in-house speakers launched last year. The new Barefoot-powered woofers have increased to 6.5 inches in size from 5 inches in the original pair. The new-and-improved Bookshelfs boost the power from 60 watts RMS to almost double with 100 watts RMS per channel for a powerful total of 300 watts.<\/p>\n

The studio enhanced refresh also brings new ways to listen to your music with the options to connect via Bluetooth, S\/PDIF, and USB-C inputs. Last year’s models only featured 3.5mm aux and RCA connectivity so the ability to stream your music wirelessly is a big addition. The Bluetooth connectivity is reportedly strong and doesn’t infringe on the audio quality much at all. The speaker system is powered itself and doesn’t need an amp so you can connect to them straight up.<\/p>\n

In the Verge’s hands-on review<\/a> of the speakers they listened to master recordings on Tidal<\/a> for an optimum 24-bit\/96 kHz quality. The reviewer said that “in most cases, it sounds exquisite” however noted that some super-low frequencies struggled to reach their optimum power but said “that was a rare experience”.<\/p>\n

The speakers aren’t cheap coming in at $1,500 however for the quality of sound and connectivity it may well be worth it if you’re looking for some top-end speakers for home-use. Barefoot Sound’s studio monitors all cost $4,000 so technically you’re getting Barefoot’s prestige quality of sound in a cheaper package.<\/p>\n
