Spotify&#8217;s growth has been phenomenal in recent years, starting 2015 with just 15 million subscribers and having now over-tripled that in 2 years.<\/p>\n<p>One of Spotify&#8217;s biggest competitors, Apple Music have roughly half the subscribers of Spotify with their last announcement being &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/apple-say-apple-music-has-well-past-20-million-subscribers\/\">well past 20 million subscribers<\/a>&#8220;. On top of their 50 million subscribers Spotify also has around 100 million free users who listen to music with ads on their streaming service.<\/p>\n<p>Spotify revealed the news through a surprisingly humble tweet:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Thank you to our 50 million subscribers. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Spotify50?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Spotify50<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/eXkOV71bwu\">pic.twitter.com\/eXkOV71bwu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Spotify (@Spotify) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Spotify\/status\/837404762895233024?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 2, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Whilst Spotify are dominating streaming services that doesn&#8217;t mean it&#8217;s not still a highly competitive space. Many services have had to find unique ways to stand out, with streamers like Apple Music and Tidal nabbing albums for exclusive release on their services.<\/p>\n<p>Spotify however have been looking for unique ways to draw listeners in to their service, adding <a href=\"http:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/spotify-take-on-deezer-and-apple-music-with-original-exclusive-podcasts\/\">original podcasts<\/a> and a new <a href=\"http:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/spotifys-music-is-going-hi-fi-with-a-new-subscription-offering-taking-on-tidal\/\">leak suggesting that Spotify will be adding a new Hi-Fi tier<\/a> to their subscriptions.
