Bose is bringing Bluetooth Auracast support to its QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen), opening up new ways to share audio and improve accessibility.

Bose has started rolling out Auracast support for its QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen), bringing the emerging Bluetooth audio technology to one of its flagship headphone ranges.

As The Verge reports, the feature arrives through a firmware update, introducing Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast broadcasting as a beta feature for compatible headphones. It’s a welcome step for a technology that could change how people access audio in public spaces.

What is Auracast and how does it work?

Auracast allows a compatible device to broadcast audio to multiple supported headphones, earbuds or hearing devices simultaneously, rather than connecting to each listener individually.

In practice, this could let people listen to airport announcements through their own headphones, tune into audio broadcasts in public spaces or access sound in lecture halls and performance venues.

Which Bose headphones support Auracast?

Bose’s QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) are the first headphones from the company to receive Auracast support. The feature is included in firmware version 10.12.12, released on 8 September 2026, and is currently marked as a beta feature.

As well as Bluetooth LE Audio, the update brings improved wired USB audio compatibility, including game and chat audio balancing and better support for web conferencing apps.

Bose has also indicated that the original QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) are not the only model in line for the technology, with further support planned for compatible devices.

What could Auracast mean for music and live events?

For the music industry, Auracast could open up new ways to make live events more accessible. Venues with compatible transmitters could broadcast audio directly to visitors’ headphones, potentially offering another way to experience performances and other live events.

Adoption is still developing, so these possibilities will depend on venues installing the necessary broadcasting equipment and audiences having compatible devices. Still, Bose’s involvement gives the technology a boost from a major headphone manufacturer.

For independent artists and labels, it’s worth keeping an eye on how audio technology evolves alongside the ways fans discover and experience music.

Bose’s QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) are available to buy for $399 on Amazon.
