AI-generated impersonations have been used in scam adverts and fraudulent messages targeting fans, while fake songs and music videos can circulate online as though they are genuine releases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taylor Swift, for example, faced a fake song and music video presented as new material in March. The YouTube channel responsible has since been shut down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>The challenges of identifying unauthorised AI music<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sony\u2019s latest figures come as streaming services deal with an enormous volume of AI-generated uploads. In July, Deezer reported detecting around <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/deezer-ai-generated-music-50-percent-new-uploads\/\">90,000 AI-generated tracks<\/a> arriving on its platform every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not all AI-generated music is unauthorised or fraudulent. However, impersonations and uploads designed to manipulate streaming royalties create additional challenges for platforms, distributors and rights holders trying to distinguish legitimate releases from deceptive content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The industry is responding with a combination of detection tools, distribution safeguards and calls for stronger protections. Deezer has introduced systems to identify and <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/deezer-now-tags-ai-music-the-first-streaming-platform-to-do-so\/\">label AI-generated music<\/a>, while Apple Music has also introduced <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/apple-music-ai-transparency-tags\/\">AI transparency tags<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>What does this mean for independent artists?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Independent artists can face similar problems when someone uses their name, music or voice without permission, often without the resources available to major-label acts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keeping an eye on artist profiles and looking out for suspicious uploads can help creators spot potential impersonations early. If you find a release using your identity without authorisation, document the listing and contact the relevant platform or your distributor to report it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For distributors, the challenge is ensuring that legitimate AI-assisted releases can coexist with safeguards against impersonation and streaming fraud.
