Spotify says mobile users will get a more interactive experience, including editorial commentary, enhanced visuals and personalised discovery around nominees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>Spotify continues to invest in video<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The VMAs partnership is another indication of Spotify\u2019s growing focus on video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Spotify is still best known as an audio streaming service, video is becoming an increasingly important part of the platform. Earlier in 2026, Spotify began beta testing the ability for artists to upload full-length videos directly through Spotify for Artists, including official music videos, live performances, covers and studio sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spotify says its own data has shown a connection between video viewing and subsequent music engagement. According to the company, listeners stream a song 64% more often on average during the three weeks after watching its video. Spotify also says these listeners are 1.4 times more likely to save, share or add the song to a playlist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company has also experimented with music video premieres, allowing selected Premium listeners to watch certain videos on Spotify before they become available elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bringing VMA performances onto the platform fits naturally into this wider video strategy, giving Spotify another source of high-profile visual music content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>What does this mean for artists?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For independent artists, Spotify\u2019s continued investment in video is worth paying attention to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Music videos, live sessions and other visual content have traditionally lived separately from streaming releases on platforms such as YouTube and social media. Spotify\u2019s latest moves suggest the company increasingly wants listening and watching to happen within the same ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The VMAs partnership is focused on some of the world\u2019s biggest artists, but it highlights a broader shift in how music streaming platforms are approaching visual content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As more video features become available to artists, creating strong visuals around a release could become an increasingly useful part of an artist\u2019s Spotify strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For independent musicians, that means thinking beyond the audio itself.
