AI music tools are increasingly capable of generating complete songs, but Engram<\/a> is taking a different approach. The new hardware sampler from Thoughtful Things<\/a> uses generative audio models to create short, unusual sounds that musicians can capture, manipulate and build into their own productions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently raising funding through a Kickstarter campaign, Engram combines AI-powered sound generation with a more traditional sampler and groovebox workflow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Engram?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Engram is a hardware sampler that uses what its creator calls \u201ctiny AI\u201d to generate and process audio directly on the device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rather than generating complete songs, its models produce short bursts of sound that can be sampled and manipulated. You can also feed your own recordings into Engram and use its neural audio processing to warp, blend and extend them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result is intended to be more of a sound-design instrument than an automated music maker. According to Thoughtful Things, the idea is to treat AI models as explorable sound generators, giving users control over the process rather than hiding everything behind a single prompt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
