Spotify is taking its RNB X playlist off the screen and into the real world with a new Dallas festival featuring Erykah Badu, H.E.R. and a new generation of R&B artists. Select performances will also be released exclusively on Spotify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spotify is taking the idea of a playlist one step further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The streaming giant has teamed up with Live Nation Urban to launch RNB X Live in Dallas, a new one-day R&B festival coming to The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory on 1 November 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lineup brings together some serious R&B names, including Erykah Badu and H.E.R., alongside rising artists kwn, Destin Conrad, Jai\u2019Len Josey and Dallas’ own rjtheweirdo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the interesting part isn’t just who’s playing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spotify is effectively turning RNB X, its flagship R&B editorial playlist, into a live music brand, with select performances from the Dallas event set to be captured and released exclusively on Spotify through Spotify Live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For independent artists, that’s worth paying attention to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From playlist to live stage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Spotify’s RNB X playlist has become one of the platform’s biggest destinations for R&B discovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to RouteNote’s recent look at Spotify’s most-followed R&B and soul playlists, RNB X had around 6 million followers as of July 2026, making it the most-followed R&B-focused playlist on the platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s a huge built-in audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now Spotify is taking that audience offline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company describes RNB X Live in Dallas as its first standalone R&B concert event and the biggest expression of RNB X to date. The festival is being presented in partnership with Live Nation Urban, expanding on a relationship that has already produced several RNB X live events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spotify’s Head of Editorial, R&B, Alaysia Sierra, says the company’s aim is to extend the work it does through RNB X beyond the streaming platform and create real-world spaces for artists and fans to connect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other words, the playlist isn’t just recommending the music anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s becoming the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who’s playing RNB X Live in Dallas?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Dallas lineup deliberately mixes established artists with newer names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erykah Badu<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A Dallas icon returning home, Erykah Badu will headline the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her appearance comes shortly after the release of Before the World Blows<\/em>, her collaborative album with The Alchemist and her first full project in more than a decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Spotify, putting Badu at the top of the bill gives RNB X Live an unmistakable connection to Dallas and to R&B’s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

H.E.R.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

H.E.R. is also set to perform, marking a relatively rare return to the stage after several years away from headlining her own shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rest of the lineup is where things get particularly interesting for emerging artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

kwn, Destin Conrad and Jai’Len Josey represent a younger generation of R&B talent that Spotify has supported through initiatives including Artists To Watch and Fresh Finds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Dallas artist rjtheweirdo will open the event, giving the hometown scene a place on the bill too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spotify has also said that its \u201csuper listeners\u201d, the top 2% of an artist’s monthly streaming audience, account for around 50% of ticket sales through the platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That tells us something important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Streaming data isn’t just useful for recommending songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It can tell platforms who is most likely to turn a stream into a ticket purchase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For artists, that could become increasingly valuable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why RNB X Live matters for independent artists<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Obviously, most independent musicians aren’t about to get booked to headline a Spotify festival tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the strategy behind RNB X Live is relevant regardless of your current audience size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spotify is effectively taking a digital discovery ecosystem and turning it into a physical community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s something independent artists can learn from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a time when a playlist was basically a list of songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spotify’s biggest playlists now have huge identities of their own. They’re discovery engines, cultural brands and, increasingly, launchpads for experiences outside the app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
