Creators were largely stuck with selecting a frame from within the video, making it difficult to create eye-catching, consistent branding across their channel. But now, that&#8217;s finally changing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YouTube has <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.youtube\/news-and-events\/youtube-studio-custom-thumbnail-updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> that creators in the <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/lower-youtube-partner-program-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">YouTube Partner Program<\/a> (YPP) can now upload custom thumbnails for Shorts, giving creators much more control over how their short-form videos appear across YouTube. According to YouTube, it&#8217;s one of the platform&#8217;s most requested features, with broader availability planned over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For independent artists, labels and music creators, it&#8217;s another welcome update that makes Shorts a stronger platform for music discovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<a name=\"custom-thumbnails\"><\/a>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3>YouTube now supports custom thumbnails for Shorts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of a wider update to YouTube Studio, eligible creators can now upload a custom image to use as the thumbnail for their Shorts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, creators could only select a frame from their video, usually from within the YouTube mobile app. While some creators tried to work around this by designing &#8220;thumbnail frames&#8221; into the opening seconds of their Shorts, the results weren&#8217;t always ideal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"New!
