To mark America’s 250th anniversary, Spotify<\/a><\/strong> has shared<\/a> new listening data revealing just how influential American artists remain, both within the United States and across international markets. According to Spotify, 69% of all Spotify streams in the US go to American artists, while American music accounted for 70% of the Spotify Top 50 chart in the country throughout 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The figures reinforce the strength of homegrown artists in the world’s biggest recorded music market, but they also tell a much broader story. American music continues to travel far beyond its borders, with hundreds of billions of international streams proving that today’s biggest releases can reach audiences almost anywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For independent artists, it’s another reminder of how streaming has transformed music discovery, making it easier than ever to connect with listeners around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American artists continue to lead at home<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Spotify’s latest figures show that domestic artists remain the soundtrack for much of America. Alongside the finding that nearly seven in ten Spotify streams in the US go to American artists, Spotify says American music made up 70% of the platform’s US Top 50 chart during 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Listeners in states across the South and Midwest streamed the highest proportion of American music, with Mississippi, West Virginia, South Dakota, Alabama and Louisiana leading the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of the country’s biggest names continue to drive those numbers. Taylor Swift, Morgan Wallen, Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone all feature among Spotify’s most-streamed American artists in the US, while Morgan Wallen stands out for having an especially strong domestic following, with 74% of his Spotify streams coming from American listeners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The data suggests that even in today’s borderless streaming landscape, local audiences still play a vital role in an artist’s success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American music is reaching listeners across the globe<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The story doesn’t stop with domestic listening either. Spotify reports that songs featuring at least one American artist were streamed 776 billion times outside the United States over the past year alone, underlining the country’s continued influence on global music culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The platform’s data also highlights which genres continue to resonate internationally. While pop, hip-hop, rock and indie remain global favourites, streams of American country music have increased by more than 94% outside the US over the past five years, showing how audiences are embracing an increasingly diverse range of American sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
