Chart analysts warn that the slowdown in breakout hits and chart-topping singles seen in 2025 could be continuing into 2026.<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Last year, we spoke about whether 2025 was the \u201cyear that chart music and hit singles died\u201d<\/a>. At the time, it had come after a slow year music-wise. There were fewer breakout hits, less culturally dominant songs, and no real \u201csong of the summer\u201d. Compare that to the year before where we were living in a Brat summer, and Sabrina Carpenter\u2019s Espresso was being played everywhere.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fast forward to 2026, and that conversation hasn\u2019t gone anywhere. New data from Chartmetric<\/a> suggests the so-called \u2018pop slump\u2019 may have carried over into 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
