From AI band <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/the-velvet-sundown-an-ai-generated-band-or-clever-streaming-experiment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Velvet Sundown building an audience<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/upload-your-music-to-spotify-for-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spotify<\/a>, to AI artist Xania Monet landing a <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/ai-artist-xania-monet-lands-3-million-record-deal-a-turning-point-for-the-music-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported $3 million record deal<\/a>, to music generator Suno hitting a <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/suno-funding-round-ai-music-shift\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">multi-billion-dollar valuation<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/warner-music-suno-ai-partnership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">partnering with Warner Music<\/a>, AI music continues to capture headlines.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, Bandcamp has made its position on AI music <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.bandcamp.com\/2026\/01\/13\/keeping-bandcamp-human\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">crystal clear<\/a>. Human artists are central to Bandcamp, and AI music has no place on the platform.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Bandcamp\u2019s new AI policies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Bandcamp\u2019s updated policy doesn\u2019t leave much room for interpretation. Under the new guidelines:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Music and audio that is generated wholly or in substantial part by AI is not allowed on the platform.<\/li><li>Any use of AI tools to impersonate other artists or styles is strictly prohibited in accordance with Bandcamp\u2019s existing policies prohibiting impersonation and intellectual property infringement.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, Bandcamp is drawing a hard line against music where AI does the heavy-lifting, rather than being used as a supporting tool.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It makes sense too. Bandcamp\u2019s mission has always been about helping real artists connect directly with real fans.\u00a0Initiatives like <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/bandcamp-friday-2026-dates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bandcamp Fridays<\/a>, where artists keep 100% of profits on their music sold on those Fridays, have been known to help <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/bandcamp-fridays-generate-19m-for-artists-in-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">generate millions of dollars for independent artists<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By banning AI-generated music, Bandcamp is reinforcing its position as an artist-first platform. Plus, it reinforces trust on both sides of the platform. Fans can continue to support artists, knowing that they\u2019re supporting genuine, human creativity. But for other streaming platforms, calls for transparency could be the middle ground.
