After years of delays and three ban deadline extensions, the US and China have reportedly reached a&nbsp; \u201cframework deal\u201d over TikTok. Yes, you read that right- a deal (I\u2019m just as surprised as you are).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to statements from <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/115208260926006345\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">President Trump<\/a> and US Treasury Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/15\/trump-tiktok-china.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scott Bessent<\/a>, it appears that a deal has been all but finalised just in time for the latest September 17th deadline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/115208260926006345\/embed\" class=\"truthsocial-embed\" style=\"max-width: 100%; border: 0\" width=\"600\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><script src=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/embed.js\" async=\"async\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, nothing\u2019s ever that simple. Bessent kept things vague, saying only that the commercial terms have been agreed \u201cbetween two private parties\u201d. He declined to confirm whether a US company has bought the platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not to mention, Trump still needs to speak with Chinese President Xi this Friday to get China\u2019s final approval. So, while things look promising, it\u2019s best not to get ahead of ourselves. Things aren\u2019t 100% locked in just yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>How did we get here?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The fuss all goes back to US national security concerns over TikTok\u2019s Chinese ownership. In fact, TikTok\u2019s fate in the States has been hanging in the balance <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/tiktok-will-be-banned-on-us-app-stores-from-sunday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">since 2020<\/a>, when Trump pushed to ban the app during his first presidential run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fast forward five years, and the same security issues lie at the heart of the conversation. The app then <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/tiktok-resumes-service-in-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">went dark for a day<\/a> before Trump took to office, signing the first of <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/trump-extends-tiktoks-us-ban-deadline-for-a-third-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">three extensions<\/a> to give TikTok more time. The latest sell-or-ban extension was due to expire September 17th, with doubts surrounding whether a deal may ever be reached.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In July, Trump\u2019s Commerce Secretary even <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/tiktok-china-approval-us-ban-threat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warned TikTok might be gone from the US for good<\/a>. But given Trump\u2019s continuous efforts to keep the app running in the US, that never really seemed realistic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Why this matters for artists and creators<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For the music industry, a more certain future for TikTok in the US is a big sigh of relief. TikTok has become a crucial platform for <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/does-tiktok-drive-viral-music\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">music discovery<\/a>, helping propel old tracks and rising stars to new levels.
