YouTube Music is shaking up its design by shifting its search function to an arguably better spot on the bottom navigation bar.<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A new home for Search on YouTube Music<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

YouTube Music<\/a> is testing quite a major UI change, spotted by both Reddit users<\/a> and 9to5Google<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The search button, previously positioned between the notification bell and profile icon in the top-right corner, is now being moved to the middle of the bottom bar. In effect, it replaces the old \u201cExplore\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tapping the button now opens a page that looks almost identical to the former Explore tab, but with a search bar at the top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How users are reacting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Whenever a platform changes something central to its user experience, users are typically bound to have some thoughts about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One particular annoyance is that it now turns searching on YouTube Music into a two-step process. Instead of searching for what you want straight away, you\u2019re first taken to the Explore page before you search at the top. There is a workaround though, thanks to a shortcut that lets you search instantly when you double-tap the new search button (which opens a keyboard to allow for easy searching).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the whole, user response is overwhelmingly positive. Users have taken to Reddit to praise the change, as it could actually be a more beneficial position for them. Positioning the search button at the bottom makes it easier to reach, especially for one-handed scrolling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
