The move could finally spell the end of the US TikTok saga, which saw its <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/tiktok-court-date-seemingly-no-help\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sell-or-ban deadline<\/a> in the US extended for the <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/trump-extends-tiktoks-us-ban-deadline-for-a-third-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">third time<\/a> last month.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>How will it work?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The new app will go hand-in-hand with a new US-based buyer, letting the US owners take control of security and data concerts in a US-exclusive app. A group of non-Chinese investors including Oracle will be reportedly taking majority ownership of the US app and TikTok operations, while ByteDance (TikTok\u2019s parent company) would still hold a minority stake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This comes following news that a TikTok buyer <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/trump-says-tiktok-has-a-buyer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has been found<\/a> in the US, but remains unnamed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-routenote-blog wp-block-embed-routenote-blog\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"f0tLhOkNCT\"><a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/trump-says-tiktok-has-a-buyer\/\">Trump says TikTok has a buyer, but keeps names under wraps<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Trump says TikTok has a buyer, but keeps names under wraps&#8221; &#8212; RouteNote Blog\" src=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/trump-says-tiktok-has-a-buyer\/embed\/#?secret=f0tLhOkNCT\" data-secret=\"f0tLhOkNCT\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3>The impact on users<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>US users will need to switch to the new version of the app when it launches. This date is currently scheduled for September 5th. This comes just ahead of the latest September 17th deadline, despite the current app expected to work until March 2026 anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The US version of TikTok will replace the existing one in app stores, and users will be redirected to update their app if they try to launch the original version. Upon updating, the US-exclusive will replace the older version. As the millions of US users switch across, there are warnings that it could disrupt the service- something that content creators will need to be aware of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>What comes next?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chinese government still needs to approve any deal before it is finalised and announced. However, given the current tensions between the US and China over tariffs, it remains unclear as to whether this will arrive any time soon.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Finally, light at the end of the tunnel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If the reports are correct, this could bring an end to the TikTok sell-or-ban saga that has dragged on.
