The platform plans to integrate Google DeepMind\u2019s latest <a href=\"https:\/\/deepmind.google\/models\/veo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Veo 3<\/a> video generation model into Shorts.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Veo 3 builds on the previous Veo 2 model that <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/youtube-shorts-introduces-ai-powered-clip-generation-with-veo-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">already powers<\/a> YouTube\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/youtubes-new-tool-produces-photorealistic-ai-video-in-shorts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dream Screen<\/a> tool. It promises higher video quality, better creative control, more realism, and adds audio. The result? AI videos that further blurs the line between authentic and AI-generated content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls src=\"https:\/\/deepmind.google\/api\/blob\/website\/media\/us_wm_a155-ccfff61cb0a4_14_1.mp4\"><\/video><figcaption><em>Image credits: <a href=\"https:\/\/deepmind.google\/models\/veo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google&#8217;s Veo 3 model in action<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3>What can creators expect?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether Shorts will get the full functionality of Veo 3 is still unclear. YouTube hasn\u2019t confirmed whether creators will be able to use it to generate complete Shorts videos from scratch, or if it will simply enhance the existing Dream Screen capabilities. However, Mohan did emphasise that Veo 3 \u201cimproves video quality and incorporates audio\u201d, and so this will presumably come to Shorts in one way or another.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also don\u2019t know whether these Veo 3 Shorts features will be available for free, considering you need a paid subscription to Google\u2019s AI Pro or AI Ultra plans to access Veo 3. There\u2019s also no word on whether these features will be limited to Shorts or expanded to longer-form content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Is this good news?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Mohan is \u201cexcited by the potential of AI tools to empower human creativity\u201d, and there\u2019s no doubt that Veo 3 could help creators produce polished, realistic content more easily. But, it could also make it easier to churn out slop content such as low value, brainrot-style videos.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is already a concern amongst platforms, as AI has undoubtedly made it easier to flood feeds with low-effort AI-generated clips. With tools like Veo 3, the line between creativity and content pollution could blur even further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no doubt that this tech could help musicians, indie artists, and content creators easily make promotional content without the cost and time of video production. But, when put in the hands of everyone, the doors are open for anyone to make more poor content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>The bigger picture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Mohan also announced that Shorts now brings in over 200 billion views daily. Not only does this show the reach of short form content on YouTube, but also the reach of these AI-generated clips.
