Most notably, Spotify Jam is coming to Android Auto, giving users a more interactive way to enjoy music on the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The updates rely on Google\u2019s \u201cCar App Library\u201d, and gives more freedom to developers as to how their apps can be used across its car platforms. Already, <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/upload-your-music-to-spotify-for-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spotify<\/a> looks to be capitalizing.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"New in-car app experiences\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ud09zuXHst4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3>What is Spotify Jam and how does it work in the car?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/spotifys-jam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spotify Jam<\/a> allows multiple users to jump into a shared queue session, without requiring a Bluetooth connection. Instead, users scan a QR code to join a Jam session, see what\u2019s playing, and add tracks to the queue in real-time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, Android Auto users will see a dedicated \u201cJam\u201d button in the corner of the Now Playing screen. Tapping it will show a QR code for passengers to scan and join, view who\u2019s in the current session, and even lets you remove people accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"704\" height=\"430\" src=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-27-133421.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-104561 lazyload\"\/><figcaption><em>Image credits: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ud09zuXHst4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Such an integration makes it easy to imagine how it could enhance road trips with friends- helping you to easily create a collaborative music session without passing around one device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spotify\u2019s updated Android Auto app will arrive \u201cin the coming months\u201d. Updates to other streaming apps like <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/free-youtube-music-distribution-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">YouTube Music<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/get-music-on-amazon-music\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amazon Music<\/a> are also expected, as developers look to tap into the improved capabilities of Google\u2019s infotainment systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Other new features on Android Auto<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside Spotify Jam, a series of other upgrades are also coming to Android Auto and Android Automotive OS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Quick Share support: Lets users add stops to a shared Google Maps route (for vehicles with Google built-in).<\/li><li>Light mode: A long-awaited feature which has been \u201cin the works for years\u201d.<\/li><li>Web browsers: Support for web apps when the vehicle is parked.<\/li><li>Weather apps: Helpful for providing updates on driving conditions.<\/li><li>Video apps: Support for video apps, which includes audio-only playback when driving.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, video and gaming support will only be possible when the car is parked.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gaming apps are also in beta for Android Auto vehicles, while browser and video app support is already live in beta for vehicles with Google built-in. More widespread support is expected soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>What\u2019s next<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While these changes may not be a game-changer for the music industry, it shows how tech companies are evolving the way we listen to music in the car.
