You can tap into specific audiences when you know how to reach them, and Luminate&#8217;s new data takes us inside Europe&#8217;s biggest music markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luminate have revealed the trends for music discovery in Europe in their <a href=\"https:\/\/luminatedata.com\/research\/\">Global Music 360 survey<\/a> for Q1 2025. The results show dominance from short-form video apps like <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/can-i-add-my-music-to-tiktok-for-free\/\">TikTok<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/how-to-upload-music-to-instagram\/\">Instagram Reels<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/using-youtube-shorts-as-an-artist\/\">YouTube Shorts<\/a>, however the results show different forms of discovery for different countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/luminatedata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Blog_05_20_2025_A-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Trends in European Music Discovery. Apps like <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/can-i-add-my-music-to-tiktok-for-free\/\">TikTok<\/a> have a strong relationship with music, both in encouraging <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/can-i-add-my-music-to-tiktok-for-free\/\">creator content to use songs from their library<\/a> and more recently <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/tiktok-soft-launches-tiktok-for-artists\/\">working with artists to promote their music<\/a> from their own profiles on the app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second most popular platform for music discovery in the U.K. is on social media, shortly followed by hearing it in public. Surprisingly, recommendations and personalised playlists on music streaming services doesn&#8217;t crack the top three. These results, representing Q1 2025, show growth of 5 points in the popularity of short form video for music discovery in the U.K..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"How you can get your own music on TikTok for FREE\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5KJhTFAWWXM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Italy has similarly seen a jump in the use of short form video for music discovery, which has grown 3 points to become their most favoured discovery platform as well. Interestingly, their similarity with the U.K. ends there as livestreaming takes the second spot. In third place, Italy&#8217;s most popular discovery method is simply finding music through artists they already listen to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Germany reveals the overall diversity in how Europe is discovering new music; short form video doesn&#8217;t crack the top three. Instead, browsing online music stores like Amazon and Rhapsody is their number one route to find new music. Twitch and social media follow, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In France, it&#8217;s different again as the report reveals that live music events are their primary form of discovering new music. The report doesn&#8217;t go into further detail as to how French music consumers are discovering new music through live events; whether it is going to see artists they don&#8217;t know or through unknown support acts or festivals with multiple artist billings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In second place, France discovers music via social media. Then in third place, interestingly, France finds new music the most through exclusive TV shows from streaming services like Netflix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The results show a clear shift towards the power of social media and short form video as hegemonic cultural communities as well as social ones. However, Luminate&#8217;s data also reveals the diversity of habits that persists across different nations and how artists can think more broadly about their strategy to reach wider audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/luminatedata.com\/blog\/europe-embraces-myriad-music-discovery-sources-from-twitch-to-festivals\/\">Luminate&#8217;s Global Music 360 is available for more insights into how consumers are interacting with music. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>How artists can boost their music from Europe&#8217;s top music discovery methods<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Knowing your audience and their habits is a vital part of music promotion. Once you know where the people you want to reach gravitate towards, you can focus your efforts into that platform or channel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using the data above, you can gain an entryway into a number of European countries using their favoured methods of music discovery to your advantage.
