Currently being tested in India, France, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, the plan offers a more affordable way to access Premium features like ad-free viewing and background play without needing to commit to the more expensive family plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><strong>\u201cWe\u2019re experimenting with new ways to provide greater flexibility and value to our YouTube Premium subscribers, including offering a two-person Premium plan option, allowing two people to share a subscription at a reduced cost.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><cite>Alex McQuiston, YouTube spokesperson<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This new two-person plan functions similar to <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/upload-your-music-to-spotify-for-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spotify<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/spotifys-premium-duo-plan-for-2-people-is-now-in-14-more-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Duo<\/a>, allowing two people to maintain separate accounts under one discounted subscription. This is ideal for couples, roommates, or any two users in the same household who want to save money while still enjoying Premium features. To be eligible, both users must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Be 13 or older<\/li><li>Have a Google account<\/li><li>Belong to the same Google family group<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3>A look at the price<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The news originates from <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneycontrol.com\/technology\/youtube-pilots-two-person-premium-plan-to-boost-its-subscription-push-article-13012813.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MoneyControl<\/a><\/em>, who shared screenshots of the pricing in Indian rupees, with the two-person plan falling nicely in between the tiers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Individual plan: \u20b9140.00 per month<\/li><li>Two-person plan: \u20b9219.00 per month<\/li><li>Family plan: \u20b9299.00 per month<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While it is hard to directly compare pricing internationally, this would likely make the two-person plan roughly $16\/month in the US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>A broader push from YouTube?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This new subscription tier comes as YouTube continues to expand its subscription offerings to grow revenue beyond advertising. Just a couple of months ago, the company rolled out <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/youtube-premium-lite-us-expansion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">YouTube Premium Lite<\/a>&#8211; a more affordable plan that gives an ad-free experience on \u201cmost\u201d videos. The Lite tier does exclude <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/free-youtube-music-distribution-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">YouTube Music<\/a>, ad-free music videos, offline downloads, and background play.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-routenote-blog wp-block-embed-routenote-blog\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"dYds6DJt64\"><a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/youtube-premium-lite-us-expansion\/\">YouTube expands its &#8216;Premium Lite&#8217; subscription to the US<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;YouTube expands its &#8216;Premium Lite&#8217; subscription to the US&#8221; &#8212; RouteNote Blog\" src=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/youtube-premium-lite-us-expansion\/embed\/#?secret=dYds6DJt64\" data-secret=\"dYds6DJt64\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This two-person Premium tier may signal a broader strategy to attract new subscribers with more flexible pricing models.
