A major focus is on a super premium (supremium) subscription tier, targeted at <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/how-to-build-superfans-the-secret-to-sustaining-your-music-career\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">superfans<\/a> who pay no more than the average consumer in today\u2019s music market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spotify has long been at the heart of the conversation with its long-rumoured \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/spotifys-new-music-pro-tier\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Music Pro<\/a>\u2019 tier. While recent rumours suggested this tier would include hi-fi audio, early access to content and concert tickets, and even DJ remixing tools, the launch still seems to be on hold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-routenote-blog wp-block-embed-routenote-blog\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"HW4aUq01ik\"><a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/what-is-streaming-2-0\/\">What is Streaming 2.0?<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;What is Streaming 2.0?&#8221; &#8212; RouteNote Blog\" src=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/what-is-streaming-2-0\/embed\/#?secret=HW4aUq01ik\" data-secret=\"HW4aUq01ik\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3>Is a launch date on the cards?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Spotify posted \u2018record subscriber growth\u2019 in <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/spotify-q1-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Q1 2025<\/a>, but it remains to be seen when there will be a supremium rollout. During its <a href=\"https:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/article\/4779228-spotify-technology-s-a-spot-q1-2025-earnings-call-transcript\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Q1 earnings call<\/a>, CEO Daniel Ek said the company still needs \u201cpartners to come to the table\u201d in order to bring its supremium offering to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spotify\u2019s Co-president and Chief Business Officer reiterated the platform\u2019s belief in the \u201cgreat potential\u201d of a superfan tier, calling it a promising opportunity to \u201cdelight users\u201d. Still, the message remained that the concept is progressing, but still needs collaboration from those in the industry to make it happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>UMG\u2019s response<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On the same date as Spotify\u2019s earnings call, UMG <a href=\"https:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/article\/4779400-universal-music-group-n-v-umgnf-q1-2025-earnings-call-transcript\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">held its own call<\/a>&#8211; with the company being instrumental to the push towards Streaming 2.0. Michael Nash, UMG\u2019s Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer kept a close lid on things. However, he was \u201cencouraged\u201d by the direction of ongoing discussions with streaming platforms, including Spotify, and was hoping to elaborate on the collaborative plans later this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to a launch date, Nash expressed that the ball is in the streaming services\u2019 court, as it\u2019s ultimately up to the platforms to engineer new offerings and secure the necessary deals with rightsholders.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Supremium\u2019s potential<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/how-much-are-people-willing-to-pay-for-a-super-premium-music-subscription\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recently speaking<\/a> to MIDiA Research\u2019s Tatiano Cirisano, there is strong consumer demand for a Spotify supremium tier. MIDiA found that Spotify\u2019s estimated $5-$6 additional price point for supremium is a highly conservative one, suggesting a strong willingness to pay above this. However, the model\u2019s success is dependent on whether the right features are in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s the catch. There is clearly strong demand for the product, but Spotify seems to be taking its time to ensure the product meets expectations. Ek remains confident in the long-term potential of supremium, with Spotify aligning itself with many in the music industry to help further its growth.
