The organisation argues that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Reduced market access<\/strong>: With UMG controlling Downtown\u2019s distribution network, independent labels and artists could face fewer options to distribute their music.<\/li><li><strong>Higher prices &amp; less competition<\/strong>: Increased market control could lead to higher costs and fewer competitive alternatives.<\/li><li><strong>Unfair leverage over streaming services<\/strong>: A larger UMG footprint may allow it to dictate terms with digital platforms, sidelining independent music.<\/li><li><strong>Data concerns<\/strong>: UMG would gain unprecedented access to competitors\u2019 insights, further strengthening its market position.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While recognising that all markets need big companies, IMPALA believes this acquisition will only increase UMG\u2019s \u201cstranglehold\u201d over the market.
