This offering aims to provide an ad-free experience on most videos without the additional perks for a full Premium subscription. The tier is designed for users who want to watch videos without ads but don\u2019t need YouTube Music, background play, or offline downloads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/musically.com\/2025\/02\/21\/youtube-tests-premium-lite-tier-minus-ads-apart-from-music-videos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cAs part of our commitment to provide our users with more choice and flexibility, we\u2019ve been testing a new YouTube Premium offering with most videos ad-free in several of our markets.\u201d<\/a><\/p><cite>Paul Pennington, YouTube spokesperson<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>YouTube <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/youtube-premium-lite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">previously tested a Premium Lite tier<\/a> across some European regions back in 2021. However, the plan was <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/youtube-discontinues-premium-lite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">discontinued in 2023<\/a>, leaving a gap between the free, ad-supported version of YouTube and the feature-rich YouTube Premium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>A look back at YouTube Premium Lite<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When initially tested back in 2021, YouTube Premium Lite offered ad-free viewing on YouTube but did not include background play, offline downloads, or ad-free YouTube Music. The plan was priced at \u20ac6.99\/month- roughly \u20ac5\/month cheaper than YouTube Premium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The discontinued subscription tier <a href=\"https:\/\/routenote.com\/blog\/youtube-premium-lite-expands-to-germany-thailand-and-australia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resurfaced in select regions in October 2024<\/a> under a revised model, featuring \u201climited ads\u201d at about half the cost of a full YouTube Premium membership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If YouTube Premium Lite officially launches, it could be a great option for casual viewers who want to reduce ads but don\u2019t need a full YouTube Premium subscription.
