The Oasis 25\u2019 reunion is set to be one of the biggest events in the UK\u2019s live music scene this year. Unfortunately for some fans, Ticketmaster has stripped them of their tickets<\/a>. Reports suggest Ticketmaster has voided thousands of tickets<\/a> across multiple venues, alleging that they were purchased by bots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several dedicated fans claim otherwise, raising major concerns for concert goers over Ticketmaster\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the weekend, many Oasis fans received emails from Ticketmaster informing them that their tickets had been cancelled, claiming that \u201cbots were used to make this purchase\u201d. Ticketmaster stated that fans could submit a form to dispute the decision, but the lack of transparency has left many feeling frustrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some affected fans had purchased their tickets months in advance, spending hundreds or even thousands, on premium seats, travel, and accommodation. For instance, Leighah Conroy described the experience as “totally out of order\u201d as she \u201ctried all day to get the tickets\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI felt sick in the stomach. It\u2019s a band you\u2019ll never experience or see again and it\u2019s been on my bucket list for years. It just feels like my dreams have been completely crushed.\u201d<\/a><\/strong><\/p>Leighah Conroy, 24, from Cumbria<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

It gets worse for Marta from Spain who spent over \u00a33000<\/strong> on tickets, hotels, and flights for her family. She initially believed the cancellation email was a scam as she usually buys her tickets through Ticketmaster, stating, \u201cHow can I trust this page, which is supposed to be the official page? I really can\u2019t believe what has happened.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who’s behind the cancellations?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

While Ticketmaster issued the cancellation notices, reports suggest<\/a> it was likely sent on behalf\u00a0of the tour promoters who have ties to Ticketmaster parent company, Live Nation. It remains unclear whether Oasis or their management were involved in the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fans demand answers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ticketmaster have offered little by way of a solution for the struggling fans who had their tickets wrongly cancelled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnyone who has been contacted and believes a refund was made in error has been sent a form to fill in for the tour\u2019s promoters to review\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>Ticketmaster spokesperson<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

However, fans feel that this response falls short<\/a>. Ms. Conroy called the lack of answers \u201ctotally outrageous,\u201d as fans have been left in the dark as to why this has happened. Ms. Bonnet acknowledged the need to combat bots but believes the wrong people are being punished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere must be another way to take control of this situation, which is not to take [it out on] all the people that are buying the tickets in a legal form.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>Marta Bonnet, a fan from Spain<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

A wider industry issue<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The controversy comes at a time when ticket prices and resale practices are under intense scrutiny. The UK government has been evaluating ticketing regulations<\/a>, and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched an investigation <\/a>into Ticketmaster\u2019s handling of Oasis ticket sales last September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
