Tidal have reached 1 million subscribers, 6 months after it’s launch earlier this year.

Tidal has seen a shaky start with criticism over it’s star studded press conference launch,  showing the famous figures behind the new platform. But 6 months in and Jay Z’s premium streaming service is holding its own against competition.

Whilst it may not seem much in comparison to leading rivals it’s still a positive start for Tidal in the streaming landscape where all but Spotify are fighting to stay relevant.

Tidal relaunched itself in March after Jay Z bought WiMP streaming service. Tidal promised high quality streaming as well as proper compensation for artists, with the entire product being advertised and run by some of the biggest artists in contemporary music.

Jay Z announced the landmark though Twitter, addending “Let’s celebrate 10/20 Brooklyn”. This referring to a special concert in Brooklyn, New York on October 20th to celebrate. The benefit concert will feature headlining acts from Jay Z, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Prince, Usher, Lil Wayne, T.I. and more featuring some up-and-coming artists.

Tidal is available for $9.99 or with the added benefit of high-fidelity sound $19.99 a month.
