Deezer have been riding high for listeners in their home country France but Spotify have finally overtaken them.
Research firm Omdia have published a report suggesting that Spotify are now the leaders of music streaming in France. Deezer, being a French music streaming service, have up until now led the streaming market in France but it looks like their time is up.
Of course, they still have a huge presence in France with 13% of French web users listening with them in April of this year. Spotify reportedly have 17% of France’s audience using their service, as of April, putting them considerably in the lead and still growing.
Separate reports seem to reveal that there were 9.4 million paying music subscribers in France at the end of 2019. That’s more than 10% of the population and is only increasing. 32% of French ‘online consumers’ were reported as using streaming services in April, growth of 5% from six months earlier. Spotify are reportedly worth four of the total 5%.
