Psy’s viral sensation ‘Gangnam Style’ has held YouTube’s top spot for years but now it has been overtaken, by this?

Yes, Wiz Khalifa’s track made for the Furious 7 soundtrack is – for whatever reason – the most viewed video on YouTube now. The “rap/ballad” featuring Charlie Puth has whizzed past Psy’s long-held position as the number 1 viewed video on YouTube with almost 3 billion views.

Why it’s become so ridiculously popular, with no real viral attributes, is beyond me – not because it’s bad, it’s just not particularly special. The song was created in part as a tribute to Paul Walker, the star of Fast and Furious films before his untimely death in 2013.

It’s taken the video 2 years but with a steady stream of growth rather than sudden viral growth the music video managed to sneak up on Gangnam Style and is now YouTube’s biggest hit. It will be interesting to see how long it remains at the top after Psy’s long run as leader, but with YouTube videos growing ever-more popular the wait for the next top video may not be as long.
