The EU have outlined guidelines for member states to return to normality but unfortunately live music will be the last to return.

A new document released by the European Union provides a “roadmap to lifting Coronavirus containment measures“. The document is a vital guide for countries in the EU as we look to a, hopefully not-too-distant, future where lockdown measures are lifted.

Unfortunately for music lovers, an important thing to note is that the ease back to normality will come in phases and concerts, festivals and other large gatherings will be the last to return. It makes sense and is a sensible precaution, but is a true shame for all of us who badly miss the atmosphere, community, and enjoyment from seeing live music.

The document is to be used as a guideline and recognises that the approach will need to be different for every county, but the focus on a gradual re-introduction to public life is emphasised.

Whilst it’s sad that venues will be shut down and festivals cancelled or postponed for a long while still, the music community are coming together online in unique ways. Many artists have taken to live streaming concerts from home for fans and sites like Twitch are working to make their platforms even better for connecting musicians and fans.
