Bose Sleepbuds II – an update to their sleep focused truly wireless earbuds

Bose add an improved battery, larger library of enhanced sounds and better noise cancellation in a lighter package, with their sleep earbuds.

Bose’s Sleepbuds II hope to help you get a better nights sleep during the chaos present in the world today, with sleep noise-masking technology “clinically proven to help you fall asleep faster” by drowning out stress, snoring partners and noisy neighbours.

Before you rush out to buy these, note you won’t be streaming Spotify on these anytime soon, or any streaming, podcast or audiobook platform for that matter. Sleepbuds are solely focused on sleep and can only play Bose’s proprietary content via the Bose Sleep app. Relaxing sounds are downloaded from the app and sent to the earbuds to be played locally on device, extending battery life. Settings can also be customized in the app, such as an alarm. There are currently only 35 free tracks, but more will come in time with software updates. Justifying this choice, Bose said:

“In order to achieve a form factor small enough to be comfortable for sleeping, and accommodate a battery that can support sound playback for an entire night, we made the conscious design decision not to stream audio to Sleepbuds™. Instead, the sound files are stored on each of the earbuds and played back locally, dramatically extending the audio playback time achievable in this tiny form factor.”

Noise-masking is not full QuietComfort active noise cancellation technology, instead it “combines passive noise blocking with optimized noise-masking sounds to cover up disruptions”, via a snug fit and seal in your ear with silicon tips and pliable fins in three sizes as well as an umbrella shape providing the perfect fit. The frequencies of the sounds are tuned by Bose to make unwated noises less perceptible to your brain.

A tiny and comfortable form factor should help to avoid these earbuds from digging into your ears while you sleep. 10 hours of battery life ought to get you through the night, with three additional charges in the case.

Bose Sleepbuds are available to order today for $249.95, with shipping starting next week (October 12th). This is a steep price to pay for a pair of earbuds that can stream 60 million less tracks than most wireless earbuds.
