Amazon Prime Music is Amazon’s own digital music streaming service. Amazon have now signed a deal with Universal Music, the largest music corporation in the world, which means that Universal artists such as Drake, Katy Perry, Lorde as well as hundreds of others are now available to stream through Amazon Prime Music.

This good news doesn’t come without a downside however, which is that only “select albums” from Universal Music Group’s roster will be added to Amazon Prime Music’s catalogue. It’s unknown how the choice is being made about which albums will be available but it’s a good start for Amazon Prime Music catching up to rival services.

Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group have been available since day one which raises questions as to why there has been a delay with Universal. Another snag to the deal is that there’s a six-month deal between an albums release and it’s availability on Amazon Prime Music.

The thing to remember with Amazon Prime Music is that they aren’t trying to build a separate service to rival other streaming services, with Prime Music Amazon are just trying to add to the value of their Prime package which includes Amazon Prime Instant Video, one-day delivery and more for $99 a year.
