AmpMe have integrated YouTube into their app so you can stream videos and music from multiple phones for enhanced sound.

AmpMe are a Canadian startup that connect your phone with others to boost sound by syncing your music through their separate speakers. Today they announced they have received $8 million in a Series A funding and added YouTube as a new source for music.

Now we can all agree playing music from your phone isn’t the best listening experience. As in-built speakers continue to improve their power, unfortunately, does not. AmpMe are conquering that with their app that turns 2 or more phones into “the world’s most portable sound system”.

AmpMe CEO, Martin-Luc Archambault said: “We’re onto something here at AmpMe with over 2 million downloads since our September launch and our users are clamoring for more ways to use AmpMe in their daily lives to enjoy the music they love with friends. We are overwhelmingly positive about the future of AmpMe and our investors share the enthusiasm in wanting to help AmpMe become the most portable and social sound system in the world.

“Now, we need to listen to our users and continue to build features like the YouTube integration and many more cool music and social innovations in our pipeline. I’d better stop talking now and get back to work.”

The inclusion of YouTube is a big one as it currently accounts for a reported 40% of all music listening. Now you can play any song and YouTube and with a few friends set up your own multi-speaker system to listen to it with. You can also stream YouTube playlists through the app so you don’t have to open it up and change the song every 3 minutes.

Relay Ventures were one of the leading investors in AmpMe’s Series A funding. Relay Venture’s managing partner, John Albright said: “It’s not often that a pitch meeting turns into a party. In that conference room, we all experienced the ‘a-ha!’ moment when we heard our favourite music becoming louder and louder as we synced our phones to the party. We were hooked.

“We love teams that think big, execute and know how to succeed. Martin-Luc and the team he’s assembled have demonstrated all of the above so we took notice and are proud to be on board.”

AmpMe may be a unique and impressive app but it’s safe to say it won’t be replacing home speaker systems anytime soon. But it isn’t supposed to. AmpMe is meant for spontaneity and fun. Sitting in the garden and streaming some music or if you haven’t got a speaker in the room you’re in. It’s not supposed to be the speaker system for you, but it’s certainly a good addition. (It can connect to your bluetooth speaker as well though…)

AmpMe is available for free on Android and iOS and works with YouTube, SoundCloud, and your personal music library with streaming services to be added.
