YouTube have added a new feature to livestreaming that lets you get your voice heard amongst the masses and helps YouTuber’s earn more.

As anyone who has seen the chat section of live streams will know, any message you make will be lost in the torrent of text within seconds. Super Chat is a new feature for live streamed videos on YouTube that helps commenters to be heard amongst the masses.

Super chat’s are special messages that you can purchase in a live stream that will be highlighted within the message box so that viewers and the streamer have a better chance to see it. When you send a Super Chat your message will remain highlighted for up to 5 hours. The time your message is highlighted for, it’s word length and your message’s colour are all determined by how much you pay for your Super Chat message.unnamed (1).gif

For creators, Super Chat does double duty: keeping their conversations and connections with (super) fans meaningful and lively while also giving creators a new way to make money.

We’re excited to start the Super Chart beta today with a few creators, such as iHasCupquake, Great Library (buzzbean11) and Alex Wassabi.

We plan to broadly launch Super Chat on January 31 for creators in 20 countries and viewers in more than 40 countries.

As mentioned earlier the more you spend on your Super Chat message the longer it will stay and the more you can write. You can spend up to $500 on a single message with the guidelines below:

With the introduction of Super Chat Youtube are getting rid of one of their older features – Fan Funding. Fan Funding allowed viewers to make a voluntary payment towards creators to show their support however YouTube found it’s success limited and the feature ended up used mostly in live streams, assumably leading to the idea for Super Chat. Fan Funding has now stopped accepting sign-ups however existing enabled channels can continue to use Fan Funding until February 28th.
