Rise and shine with a unique new musical alarm from Google which connects to your Spotify for the freshest start to your day possible.

The Google Clock app may have just become the best way to wake up with their latest update. Google have integrated Spotify into their alarm clock app so that when it comes time for the rude awakening of the morning you can soften the blow in part by selecting any of Spotify’s 30+ million catalogue of tracks.

When you are setting your alarm you will now be able to choose between to columns; the plain old boring ‘Sounds’ that have been waking you up since the dawn of time and the new ‘Spotify’ column. With Spotify in Google Clock you can choose from your recently played music, browse through Spotify’s specially created and curated morning playlists, or search for any songs, albums, artists, or playlists you like. And what’s really great, it’s available for Premium and free users!

Spotify’s vice president of business development, Jorge Espinel says: “We’re excited to bring the ability to personalise your alarms on the clock app from Google with the incredible music catalogue from Spotify. This has been a top Spotify user request for years, and we can’t wait to see music fans picking their favourite tracks, artists, and playlists to kick-start their day.”

Get rid of the incessant, MIDI jingle that has been piercing your head-space bright and early for years and replace it with your favourite banger. Choose a hype track to spring you out of bed, or select your favourite ambient composition to ease yourself into the day, or put on the heaviest, angriest track you know to force those sleepy eyes awake. Google are making waking up fun, well… they are helping at least.

The feature is being rolled out this week via updates to the app on the Play Store and will be available to all devices running on Android 5.0 Lollipop or higher. To use Spotify on your Google Clock alarms you will need the latest updates for both Spotify and the Google Clock app.
