Spotify has opened up their podcasting section to all anyone to upload their podcasts to the service.

Spotify won’t be hosting the podcasts directly. Instead, producers will provide the streaming service with a link to their podcast feed, after which Spotify will list it and make the podcast available to its 180 million users.

Spotify is not providing podcasters with a revenue share on plays, as Spotify expects that all podcasters will be monetizing from within the podcast itself. Instead, Spotify will provide information on who is listening to the podcasts, which will no doubt be especially helpful to podcasts with paying advertisers.

Apple and Google are very strong in the podcasting market on both iOS and Android devices. Apple has a reported market share of 55 percent as of 2017.
