The first-ever awards show for EDM will take place this year to combat electronic music’s under-representation in music award ceremonies.

Fox will air the first Electronic Music Awards & Foundation show on the 23rd of April this year. Amongst criticism that major awards shows like the Grammy’s have been neglecting the colourful plethora of electronic dance music released every year TV4 Entertainment took matters into their own hands with their new genre-specific awards show.

In collaboration with veteran EDM producer and DJ Paul Oakenfold, TV4 Entertainment will air an hour long special of the awards on Fox. The ceremony will take place at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles and aims to highlight the best talent from across the globe in the broad genre, as well as raising money and awareness for various causes.

As executive producer, Oakenfold said: “I’m thrilled to be a part of an awards show that finally both recognizes and celebrates, on a primetime platform, one of the biggest music genres in the world today.” Currently no other major EDM artists have gotten involved though it’s sure to enliven a fire in the artists that often go unappreciated by mainstream award shows.

The show is set to be executive-produced by Paul Duddridge (Head of Entertainment Productions at TV4), Jon Cody (TV4 CEO) and of course Paul Oakenfold. It will be directed by Russell Thomas, the man behind the last 4 years of MTV’s EMA Awards as well as the Teen Choice Award winning ‘Katy Perry: Part of Me’.
