Vengaboys – 48 Hours (Forekast Remix)

I never thought I would enjoy a Vengaboys track! However, Forekast has changed my mind and I think this remix of 48 hour is actually pretty cool.

Basement Jaxx – Wheres Your Head at (HULKS Rave Monster Remix)

This is an awesome Basement Jaxx remix. It was released by BroTown Records. I love the Basement Jaxx original and this remix is nearly as good.

OK Go – White Knuckles Remix Contest

OK Go have always been great for interacting with their fans using the internet, and this remix contest for their recent single ‘White Knuckles’ is yet another example of how relentlessly cool they are. For the past three weeks, the band have selected their favourite submissions for the week and posted them on the competition’s website.

Okay, I’m a bit late telling you about this one and for that I apologise, but if you can get your entry in before the 15th of this month you might have your re-mix featured in Rock Band 3. There are lots of other nice prizes too, not least of all a massive plug for your work.

You can find out everything you need to know about the contest by clicking here. If you don’t know the song you can listen to it below.

Should you enter and get anywhere of have something exciting happen as a result, please get in touch; luke@routenote.com or on twitter @monkeyhotel

Midweek Music Suggestions: 15/09/2010

Hello there, how is your week going? Boring you say? How typically self centered of you to be so bored. I suppose some new music might go someway to resolving this boredom? Well, here are three bits of free music for you to sink your disgusting, selfish talons into. I hope you’re satisfied.

If you would like your music to be featured in this blog then please get in touch; luke@routenote.com or on twitter @monkeyhotel

That Darwin Deez has kicked up a bit of a stink in 2010, wouldn’t you say? If you’ve not yet heard this year’s magnificent album Constellations then slap yourself in the face for being such a blinkered fool and buy it from iTunes. If you are already a fan, then please enjoy these remixes of the album’s title track – ‘Constellations

The Barefoot Smile are exactly the sort of band that might be right up your street. A modern take on Roots music but in a way that isn’t completely awful, the track below had a sparse and tasteful arrangement that was enough to get me interested.

All That Remains by The Barefoot Smile

And finally, how about some Electro-pop to lift that dejected little spirit of yours? Alicia Wolfe isn’t exactly the sort of thing I would usually be found listening to, but somehow I managed to waste 2 hours on their MySpace page last week. The music is shamelessly fun, which is something becoming increasingly rare in a world full of Electro-artists that feel the need to make misguided and juvenile ‘statements’ through their clothes and music.Well worth a try.

La Roux – In For the Kill: Doctor Rosen Rosen Remix

Doctor Rosen Rosen is a very talented producer from LA who has been having a great year so far. Doctor Rosen Rosen’s latest remix is of La Roux’s “In For the Kill”. This mix is genius and Im sure we will be hearing a lot more of this track on dancefloors around the world.

DJ Shadow is Giving Away a Free Remix CD When a Purchase is Made from His Site

DJ Shadow is probably best know for his track the Organ Donor. Now DJ Shadow has put together a new album or remixes called the DJ Shadow Remix Project. The Remix Project is a 17 track album of his favourite remixes of his work which he is giving away for free with each purchase in his store.

“The DJ Shadow Remix Project began as an experiment to see if we could engage and empower the online remixing community. Initially, Mike (Fiebach, of DJShadow.com) and I figured we’d award a prize through the site, stream a few winning mixes, and leave it at that. Eighty or so submissions later, I started thinking ‘Hmm, maybe we should open this up a little.’

I love this CD, more than I ever dreamed I would. I love the lo-fi basement aesthetic of economic’s vision, the sophisticated sheen of Randomatik’s “Scatterbrain” mix, the grit and swagger of Irn Mnky. In many cases, new life has been breathed into songs I had long-since resigned to the past, and made them fresh again. You WILL hear these mixes in future shows, and that’s the strongest endorsement I can give as a DJ. From one artist to another, thank you for inspiring me.
