Liam Gallagher has always been a bit of a loud mouth (which I like), but now he has provided some crazy remarks about the new Radiohead album The King of Limbs. In a recent Quietus interview with Gallagher and Andy Bell about their new band Beady Eye:

I heard that fucking Radiohead record and I just go, ‘What?!’ I like to think that what we do, we do fucking well. Them writing a song about a fucking tree? Give me a fucking break! A thousand year old tree? Go fuck yourself! You’d have thought he’d have written a song about a modern tree or one that was planted last week. You know what I mean?

Compare that to what Noel Gallagher said about Radiohead a couple years back in Spin:

Correct me if I’m wrong, they’ve been making the same record since Kid A, have they not? Every time I see them live they blow me away, but you know, it’s kind of we make very accessible rock and roll music and they constantly make difficult electronic records.

I find this funny when nearly all of the Oasis albums sound exactly the same. I think its a bit of the Pot calling the Kettle Black.

Radiohead is the only band I know that any release goes instantly viral!

Radiohead have been offering pre-oder on their site thekingoflimbs.com for the past few days. It was expected to be released later in the month, but they have decided to start selling their digital downloads yesterday (Feb. 18).

A CD and vinyl version of The King of Limbs will be available next month.

Here is what the critics have been saying so far:

The Wall Street Journal says:

“…the new album impresses with the ease of its blend of traditional rock and contemporary electronic sounds.”

The Guardian chimes in with:

“These songs occupy an emotional terrain that Radiohead have mapped out as their own and – to their credit – others have failed to copy. What’s disappointing, however, is that the band – so often held up as musical mavericks operating in the mainstream – have failed to come up with anything that might surprise us this time.”

Bella Union have uploaded a taster of Philip Selway‘s (Radiohead drummer, sort it out!) album, due for release in two weeks.

It’s not a million miles away from Radiohead, whether that’s a good or bad thing I suppose is for you to decide. I liked it and I think if you’re a Radiohead fan you’re definitely going to listen to it at some point, regardless of how good it is.

Previously it was reported that Radiohead would be releasing their album later this year. However, during a recent interview about his upcoming solo album, Radiohead drummer Phil Selway provided an update on the band’s follow-up to 2007′s In Rainbows: “It’s not finished yet,” the drummer told EW . “It’s still ongoing. We like where we are so far.”

Selway went on to say that the studio seesion had been very productive, but the band was now thinking about taking the summer off.

As for when the album might be completed, Selway kept things vague.

“Oh, I don’t know. We keep on hitting those points where you think, ‘We’re there.’ And then you think, ‘No, it’s not.’ We’re having a break from it at the moment… and then we’ll come back to it later in the summer and see where we are.”

I dont think they will make the year end release like they were planning, but Im sure a few extra months isnt going to really matter. However, big possibility this could be out just in time for the Christmas rush.

Radiohead is one of the worlds most influencial bands and they are set to release a new album. Pitchfork reports that in an interview with the BBC 6 yesterday, Radiohead drummer Phil Selway mentioned that they are hoping to release their new album this year.

“’It’s genuinely exciting. It’s very different from what we did last time. It’s really nice to be doing this,’ he said, contrasting the sessions with the recording of In Rainbows, which he referred to as “a slog.”

“’Ideally, it would be great if it came out sometime this year. It has got to; I hope so. We’re at the finishing line. When you’re making a record, a film, write a book for ages and ages you think the finishing line is miles away. Now it feels it’s in touching distance. But of course, it being a creative process, at the last bit also, you have bursts of energy, you achieve a lot of things in a small period of time and then you’re nearly there. It might slow down. But yeah, hopefully it will be a matter of weeks.’”

In other Radiohead news, Selway’s first solo record, Familial, will be released on August 30, 2010.

Comprising long-time Radiohead producer and Basement orchestrator Nigel Godrich, Chilis bassist Flea, Joey Waronker (who plays with Beck) and Mauro Refosco of Forro In The Dark. They’ve already played their debut gig in LA, and now they’re going touring… well, playing a few dates in the US anyway:

Bryan helped transform a house in the Hollywood Hills into a recording studio and spent the last three weeks there recording Radiohead with Nigel Godrich. On Saturday, we waded through a driveway full of Priuses and Minis to get to the wrap party.

Utterly unsubstantiated, of course, but if true, we can start hoping for a new release sometime in the next few months. The band will have to be very smart to top the buzz they created with their last release, and converting buzz to sales is another thing entirely.

The blog post over at Postmark Here has been removed, which makes this blogger think someone requested it be taken down… No smoke without fire.

Williams describes file sharing as ‘taste-testing’ for music, increasing listener base and giving musicians greater audience reach.

O’Brien likens P2P file sharing to the ‘home-taping’ of the 80′s – suggesting, like Pharell, that it is a way of introducing new listeners to your music, who will then go on to buy concert tickets, merchandise or other music products, if they really like the music. He also cites services like Spotify as the more attractive answer to the ‘deeply unsexy, utilitarian’ file sharing websites – criticising the recording industry for not moving fast enough to create services that cater to consumers taste for easy access to digital music. He also stresses the importance of connecting with your fans, ‘building your tribe’, even for huge acts like Radiohead.

Of course Radiohead had the benefits of already having been made famous working with record labels (XL, TBD, Parlophone, Capitol), and the novelty and notoriety of being one of the first big acts to give their music away, but there are lessons to be learnt.
