Liam Gallagher has always been a bit of a loud mouth (which I like), but now he has provided some crazy remarks about the new Radiohead album The King of Limbs. In a recent Quietus interview with Gallagher and Andy Bell about their new band Beady Eye:

I heard that fucking Radiohead record and I just go, ‘What?!’ I like to think that what we do, we do fucking well. Them writing a song about a fucking tree? Give me a fucking break! A thousand year old tree? Go fuck yourself! You’d have thought he’d have written a song about a modern tree or one that was planted last week. You know what I mean?

Compare that to what Noel Gallagher said about Radiohead a couple years back in Spin:

Correct me if I’m wrong, they’ve been making the same record since Kid A, have they not? Every time I see them live they blow me away, but you know, it’s kind of we make very accessible rock and roll music and they constantly make difficult electronic records.

I find this funny when nearly all of the Oasis albums sound exactly the same. I think its a bit of the Pot calling the Kettle Black.

I was more encouraged when I learned that Liam was taking the Oasis hired-guns Andy Bell and Gem Archer, both excellent musicians who managed to survive the Oasis revolving door for a decent number of years, and in my opinion worked on the better examples of Oasis’ work (Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants onwards – discuss…) to his new band Beady Eye.

Today sees the release of Beady Eye’s debut single. The band have made the download available for free from their website, however, I would seriously consider listening to the song before wasting space on your hard drive.

As delighted as I am that Liam has continued to release music and not become a full time fashion designer, the song is pretty disappointing. The relentless honky tonk piano throughout makes the song feel like it drags a bit, and the vocal melody is not particularly inspiring. Liam’s lyrics are pretty much what those of us who followed Oasis to the death came to expect when Noel allowed Liam to write.

The song isn’t all bad, there is a cool instrumental breakdown and the chorus is exciting enough. There is enough here to keep me interested and I will probably buy the album, expected next year. I can’t shake the feeling however that this is what Oasis would have sounded like without Noel; all the right bits in the right places but lacking a that quality that a natural songwriter brings to any group.

Liam Gallagher has been talking to a radio station in the USA and it has now been confirmed that he is working on a Beatles film.

“We’re sort of doing things at the moment. Not Oasis, Oasis is done. Everyone except for Noel,” [via NME]

In an interview on an Italian radio staion (Radio Deejay) Liam stated that the new group would be gigging withing a couple of months.
